Newton's Off the Beaten Track Summer Camps

All Newton Music School

In addition to summer music lessons, ANMS holds an on-campus Music Explorers Summer camp from July 5- July 29. It offers small groups, and caters to children ages 6-11. The fee for the month is $1,825. Camp is in session Mon-Fri from 9-2:30. Here, children have the opportunity to explore music, dance, theatre and art.

HipStitch

HipStitch in West Newton offers a range of summer camps for kids 4+ to foster interests in crafts and design. Children can attend single sessions or full weeks of Sewing, Craft, Combo, and Fiber Art from June 6-September 9. Sewing camp is perfect for campers aged 6+ to learn to sew or build on existing skills creating projects like pillows, stuffed animals, clothes, bags, and more, while Craft camp is open to children as young as 4 and teaches kids to create art in a variety of mediums--weaving, puppets, collages, printmaking, and more. Combo camp is a morning of crafts and an afternoon of sewing, and Fiber Art Camp is available for full weeks of weaving, embroidering, hand sewing and hand knitting. Morning sessions run from 9-1, afternoon sessions from 1:30-4:30, and full day sessions from 9-4. Prices vary based on time and duration.

Newton Community Farm

Calling all future farmers, scientists, chefs, naturalists, and gardeners! At Newton Community Farm’s summer classes, kids discover connections between our food, each other, and the natural world with fun hands-on experiences. The curriculum changes depending on age, with morning classes from 9-11:30 for kids aged 5-8 including many games and activities, while afternoon classes run from 1:30-4 for kids aged 8-12 and focus more on sophisticated content like learning how food is grown, and completing science experiments. Both morning and afternoon classes include preparing snacks in the barn’s commercial kitchen from food grown on site. Camp runs from July 5-September 2 and costs $250/week. Classes are capped at 12 students with 2 teachers/class to give lots of personal attention. Newton Community Farm offers an open scholarship program covering up to 75% of the price of camp, so cost is not a barrier to any family.

Campcasso

New to West Newton, Kidcasso's Campcasso summer camp is for kids aged 4-10 years old! They’re bringing back joyful vibes of childhood summers from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s to make this the summer of the forever kid. Campers receive a canvas tote filled with everything they need for their week at Campcasso. Campcasso runs weekly from June 27-August 25, Monday-Thursday, 8:30-12:30, with no camp the week of July 4th. Campcasso costs $280/week and is offering a 20% off sibling discount for the second child - sign up today on the Kidcasso website. They also offer signature classes for children from high chair to high school are also available all summer long starting at only $15 for your first trial class!

New Art Center

With New Art Summer Camps, students entering grades 1-12 spend their vacations immersed in the arts! Children’s programs (grades 1-7) run weekly from June 20-September 2, 9-4 each day for $495/week with an optional extended day care program from 4-5 for an additional $100. Each week focuses on a different theme, from Greek and Norse Mythology to Fabulous Feasts. Campers rotate through four classrooms of Drawing/Painting, Sculpting, Clay, and Performing arts. Teen programs are for students in grades 7-12 and offer week-long intensive studio programs led by professional artists to help students explore a new interest in art, advance their skills, or build their portfolios. Students sign up for morning programs from 10-1 and/or afternoon programs from 2-5, with an unsupervised lunch break in between. Drawing camp starts at $305/week while ceramics camp runs at $370/week, with all materials provided for all classes.

Create a Cook

Create a Cook is back this summer with 11 weeks of cooking classes from June 20-September 2, each focusing on a different and delicious cuisine from “Celebrate America” to “Travel Abroad”. Students make several dishes each week and bring home their delicious creations every day to share with family! 7-10 year olds can sign up for Create a Cook’s half day programs ($575 /week), with morning sessions from 9:30-12:30 and afternoon sessions from 2:30-5:30. Kids 11+ can enroll in the full day programs ($1,050/week and run from 9:30-3:30. Create a Cook also has a 10% sibling discount if both children are signed up for the same week. Many weeks are already sold out and the rest are filling up quickly so register soon!

Newton Community Education

Newton Community Ed is offering several programs with different focuses and lengths, to ensure they have a perfect camp for every child in grades k-9. Campers can choose from unique pairings like: Sports and Exploration Camps which offer different programs throughout the summer, with exploration camps offering 4-5 unique options based on each week’s theme. Camp Invention is a fun and educational two-week camp running from July 11-22 where kids can work on engaging projects such as exploring outer space, solving mysteries in the ocean, and building robots. And for kids interested in acting, singing, dancing, or costume and set design, there are still a few spots left in NCE’s first ever Musical Theater Camp, a five-week long program where students in grades 3-5 and 6-9 produce three full-length performances of the musical Annie Jr!
