While there are dozens of bakeries in Newton, there’s only one that specializes in cookies—and wow, at The Half Cookie, they are nothing less than extraordinary. With uber succesful pop ups in the Back Bay, SOWA, and The Seaport, The Half Cookie opened a brick and mortar bakery this summer next to the Star Market in Chestnut Hill. Not your typical cookies, ones created by this bakeshop are oversized, and some are stuffed with literally jaw-dropping, non-traditional ingredients—like the “Salted Twix,” “Peanutbutter Butterfinger,” and “Girls Night Out,”—a (gasp) half pound cookie bursting with mini m&ms, Reese’s pieces, and a peanut butter core. This is The Half Cookie’s first Bakery Crawl—so stop in on Friday or Saturday for 10% off cookie purchase or a free Broadstreet cold brew for orders $35+. Mon-Sat: 10 AM-7 PM; Sun: 12-6 PM.
Bakey, co-owned by Israeli celebrity baker Uri Scheft— founder of Lehamim Bakery in Israel and Breads Bakery in New York City—is now open and serving its legendary sweet babkas, savory pastries, and breads in Newton Centre. At Bakey, babka reaches new heights of over-the-top deliciousness—and when paired with their A-list Caffe Umbria coffee, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better nosh. Try both during the Bakery Crawl when Bakey offers a free small hot coffee or cold brew with any pastry purchase on both September 27 & 28th. (Just let them know you’re part of the Crawl!) Mon - Fri 7:30 AM - 7 PM, Sat & Sun: 8 AM - 6 PM.

Well it’s about time Finally-- was a bagel shop on the north side of the city! The NY Bagel Factory opened this spring in Newtonville, seriously upping Newton’s bagel game. These New York-style bagels are boiled then baked using the finest ingredients available. (Even the quality of the water is tightly monitored!) The result? A perfectly shiny, crunchy exterior, and an interior that’s light with just the right amount of bounce. And there’s no skimping whatsoever on these bagels, with both tops and bottoms coated with seeds, making sure every bite is perfection. Try the bagels yourself during the Bakery Crawl on Friday and Saturday when they’re offering 3 free bagels when you purchase 6 bagels or a free muffin when you purchase 2 muffins. Mon-Thurs: 6 AM - 4:30 PM; Fri-Sun: 6 AM-3:30 PM
Buy any 4 mochi donuts and get a free beverage! Pon de Joy is one of the most fun bakeries in Newton, specializing in mochi donuts in a rainbow of colors and I-can’t-believe-they’re-this-good flavors. Mochi donuts are a fusion between American donuts and mochi— a Japanese dessert made from glutinous rice flour—they are lightly crispy on the outside with just the right amount of bounce on the inside. Pon de Joy’s mochi donut menu changes weekly so there's always something new to try! And it’s drink menu is no joke—with Boba, Cold Brew, Mocha Latte, and Matcha Latte, and lots, lots more. But the baked goods here go well beyond muffins—cookies, cupcakes, custom cakes, fruit turn-overs, savory quiches, and personal pot pies are some of the best in Newton. Mon-Fri: 6:30-2; Sat: 6:30-1.
Even though Little L has been open for a few years it still remains one of Newton’s best kept secrets. But those in the know begin lining up at this magical (yes, magical) bakery early Saturday morning for its creative French and Japanese sweet and savory baked goods, unlike any others in Newton. Even better? Little L regularly fills its cases with new scratch-made fare, so there’s always something different to try.
