It's Newton's 4th Annual Bakery Crawl, when bakeries throughout the city fling open their doors and invite us in for specials, sales, and samples. There's no better way to kick off the fall season in Newton! Go with friends, family, or head out on your own. Ride a bike, walk, or drive. This year's Bakery Crawl is bigger and better than ever! The Newton Bakery Crawl is a do-it-yourself event and free for participants. Visit one or two bakeries or all twenty-one.

Antoine's Pastry Shop

Buy one cannoli get the second for free! Located in the heart of Nonantum, this old school, family-owned and operated bakery is a city icon and must-visit experience. To keep up with daily demand, Antoine’s bakers work nearly round-the-clock producing scratch-made Italian, French, and American pastries and breads. Bakey, co-owned by Israeli celebrity baker Uri Scheft— founder of Lehamim Bakery in Israel and Breads Bakery in New York City— has brought its legendary sweet babkas, savory pastries, and breads to Newton Centre, and has quicky built a legion of Newton Bakey fans. At Bakey, babka reaches new heights of over-the-top deliciousness—and when paired with their A-list Caffe Umbria coffee, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better nosh. Bettina's Bakery

Located in a former hotel in the Upper Falls historic section, there’s nothing cookie-cutter about Bettina’s Bakery. Owned and operated by two professional pastry chefs (Bettina is from Germany and Naun is from Honduras), this one-of-a-kind eatery seamlessly blends together multicultural flavors with American tastes. Here you’ll find diners sitting down for breakfast and lunch, enjoying conchas, cubanos, horchata, streuselkuchen, and schnitzel along with their turkey sandwiches and salads. And don’t overlook their seasonal pies, muffins, scones, and custom cakes which are some of the best in the city. During the Crawl Bettina’s has smaller-sized apple, blueberry and pumpkin pies, and free pie samples. Crawlers also get $3 off any bakery purchase over $15. Blackbird Doughnuts

Since opening its first shop in Boston, Blackbird Doughnuts has elevated the local doughnut scene with their artisanal, Best of Boston, scratch-made doughnuts. The bakery has both airy brioche doughnuts made with vegan butter and cake-style doughnuts. Each month features new flavor releases—many seasonally inspired, along with classic faves. A few of September’s flavors include Pear+ Fig Jam Bismack, Honey + Blackberry, and Cider Cake. Cookie Sampler Bags

Blacker’s Bakeshop is ready to show off its recent glow up during this year’s Bakery Crawl. This nut-free, dairy-free, and kosher pareve bakery is a local favorite for those with or without special diets. And during the High Holidays, well, it just may be the busiest bakery in the city. Known for traditional items that recall childhood memories like hostess-style cupcakes, half moons, rugelach, and custom cakes, Blackers’ bakers are always testing and adding new items to their menu, like their popular cookie cups and savory pizza buns. Stop at Blackers on FRIDAY, September 26th for one of their $4 cookie sampler bags. You just may want to make it your first stop on the Crawl, because their cookie bags always sell out early and Blacker's is closed on Saturdays. Tues-Thurs: 8:30-5; Fri: 8:30-4; Sun: 10-2. Breadsong Bakery

A bakery tasting box of assorted treats for just $20? Count us in! Everything at Breadsong is made from scratch, including breads, pies, cakes, cookies, and their signature croissants. Breadsong's "tasting box" is stuffed with some of their most popular treats, including double chocolate and raspberry jam linzer cookies, and a vanilla pecan pound cake. It comes with one of their iced coffees which has ice cubes made from their coffee. It has been featured in Boston Magazine, on Chronicle, and even on the Travel Channel, and now Cookie Monstah has opened a bakery in Newtonville and ready to share its scratch-made, oversized, “best cookies ever” with us. (And if you like your cookies sandwiched around a scoop of local Richardson’s ice cream, even better.) During the Bakery Crawl, Cookie Monstah is offering a FREE chocolate chunk cookie to all crawlers. Open seven days a week, Cookie Monstah is on Washington Street, tucked between Clover and CVS, behind the New York Bagel Company, with access from the TRIO parking lot. For over 30 years, Country Desserts’ scratch-made muffins have earned it a reputation as Newton's must-stop muffin shop. There’s a lot happening at Kaffestugan on Saturday, September 27th during the Bakery Crawl! Tucked into the Scandinavian Cultural Center & Library this little coffee shop is ONLY OPEN ON SATURDAYS from 10 AM - 2 PM, when those in the know grab a café table, enjoying modestly-priced Scandinavian pastries and savory sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. For the Crawl they’re serving up free samples of ❤️-shaped Icelandic waffles and while there plan to visit their annual Huldufólk festival and explore the enchanted fairy walk, take part in Icelandic activities, and search for the enchanted Huldufólk fairy dwellings. It’s a perfect stop for families. All proceeds from Kaffestugan support the Cultural Center & Library.

Little L is one of Newton’s most creative bakeries. Here we can find Japanese and French sweet and savory baked goods, unlike any others in Newton. Even better? Little L regularly fills its cases with new scratch-made fare, so there’s always something different to try. And when we’re not sure what to select, their friendly staff helps us decide, whether it’s Azuki Milk Buns, Coffee Pan, Kinako Mochi Croissants, Japanese Milk Bread, savory Corn & Cheese Rolls, and so much more. Newton’s newest bakery, Luna’s Cakes & Coffee, just opened in Newton Centre, and its seats are already filling up with discerning lovers of great coffee, cakes, cupcakes, and sweet treats. Opened by sisters and bakers Valeria and Valentina, Luna’s is inspired by the family’s Colombian heritage, with Latin American flavors seamlessly blending with their own creative twist. Visitors can pick up a bite and coffee to go or take advantage of this bakery’s inviting space and grab a table. Here come Labubu donuts! This lttle bakery, specializing in mochi donuts in a rainbow of colors, is always on trend. Mochi donuts are a fusion between American donuts and mochi— a Japanese dessert made from glutinous rice flour—they are lightly crispy on the outside with just the right amount of bounce on the inside. The Icing on the Cake is participating in the Crawl on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27 FROM 10-2, and it’s a must-stop for cupcake lovers. Purchase 3 cupcakes during the Crawl and get the 4th for FREE! Except for the cupcakes, all of the cakes at this bakery are custom, with wedding cakes a specialty. BUT on Fridays and Saturdays, The Icing on The Cake has cupcakes on a first come first serve basis, and in-the-know locals flock to pick up these perfectly executed crowd pleasers--with just the right cake:frosting ratio. White Lion Baking Company

Cider donut samples & 10% of proceeds donated to Newton Food Pantry

White Lion Baking Company in Waban has opened our eyes to just how tasty and satisfying gluten-free and grain-free baked goods can be. This scratch-made bakery is a destination for those with special diets (Celiac Disease, Food Allergies, Paleo, Keto, Dairy-free and Vegan), while its baked goods made from wholesome, minimally processed, and organic ingredients, are a hit with even the most discriminating bakery-goers. Waban is White Lion’s second location—their other bakery is in Mashpee. Owner Liz Miles, a former pastry chef at Upstairs at the Pudding and Lumiere, is eager for the community to taste White Lion’s menu, and is offering free samples of apple cider donuts to “crawlers,” on both Friday and Saturday. 10% of the bakery’s proceeds during the Crawl will be donated to the Newton Food Pantry.
