Core Boot Camp
A bootcamp style workout for everyone

It’s no surprise that Newton, named America’s “well-being capital,” is flush with gyms and exercise studios. We’ve counted 30+, with specialties ranging from Pilates to Barre, HIIT, boxing, spinning, bouncing, one-on-one training, and more. But how to find a program that’s the right match? For early risers who prefer small bootcamp-style classes, there’s Gregg Smith’s Core Boot Camp in Newton Lower Falls.
Since 2009, Gregg Smith has run a 6 am bootcamp on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Lower Falls Community Center on Grove Street. After a dynamic warm up, Gregg leads a class of about 8–10 participants through a circuit of four exercises focused on strength, conditioning, core work, and flexibility. Half-way through, new exercise stations are introduced and the circuits continue before ending with a stretch and cool down. When the weather permits, some exercises take place outdoors.
Classes are challenging yet manageable, with options provided for existing injuries. Participants push themselves, with encouragement from Gregg and then by 7 am it’s a wrap. The $189 monthly fee works out to $15.75/class, making Gregg’s Core Boot Camp one of the city’s most affordable exercise programs. Try it to see if it’s right for you! Gregg offers free one week trials for prospective new clients. Call or email: greggasmith2000@yahoo.com
