Thistle & Leek + In Other Woods

Since opening during the pandemic, Thistle & Leek has quickly become a comfortable and welcoming Newton destination for fine food, tasty cocktails, and great service. It's kind of hard to imagine Newton Centre without it. During the Shop & Stroll, Thistle & Leek is offering strollers complimentary hot cider in to-go cups, and selling their over-the-top iced orange rolls, as well as festive bottles of their own Irish Cream and Eggnog. The restaurant is hosting artisan Ron Mistretta of In Other Woods, who will be selling his gorgeous—and reasonably-priced charcuterie boards for holiday gift-giving or hosting. Made from a combination of domestic and exotic woods, each of Ron’s boards is a labor of love and sure to become a treasured serving piece.

11:11 Healthbar + Lotus & Lettuce

We dare you to find a better smoothie or acai bowl than what they’re serving up at 11:11 Healthbar in Newton Centre. The owner, Binka Shishmanova will only use organic ingredients—refined sugars are a no-no, letting the natural and wholesome flavors of berries, fruits, nut butters, and more shine through. It’s a must-visit destination for those with the dual goal of great taste and nutrition. This natural healthbar is the perfect location for hyper-local, sustainable florist, Lotus & Lettuce. Newton resident and owner Susan Margolin grows her gorgeous flowers from seed in her garden and then arranges these home-grown bouquets in vintage vessels which she scouts out, snaps up, and repurposes. During the Shop & Stroll Susie will sell gift cards for her bouquets, a few flower subscriptions, dried flower ornaments, and vintage vessels (for future bouquets.) Susie’s sustainable bouquets are sure to brighten up any flower-lover’s day!

Woops! + Urban Pharm

Woops! has perfect gifts for celebrations or when you just want to treat yourself. Their exquisite French macarons pull in all of the season's brightest colors while melt-in-your-mouth alfajores are favorites with foodies and available in a wide variety of creative flavors. Johnny's Luncheonette + Studio North Mittens

There isn’t a more iconic restaurant in Newton Centre than Johnny’s Luncheonette. Known for their all-day breakfasts, you can enjoy locally-sourced comfort food for lunch and dinner, too, in a friendly down-home atmosphere. It’s fitting that Johnny’s is hosting Newton resident and seamstress Barkley Shafer of Studio North. Barkley sews warm, buttery-soft mittens from reclaimed fabrics, in creative color combinations. Her classic mittens sell out quickly, so you may just want to make Johnny’s your first stop on the Shop & Stroll.

Newtonville Books + Baseball Card Buddies

A welcoming space filled with books, stationery, cards and gifts, this woman-owned and operated indie bookstore in Newton Centre is committed to building community through its books and offerings that bring people together. Closed during the pandemic, Newtonville Books survived because of the steadfast commitment of its customers’ support. Back stronger than ever, Newtonville Books has resumed its events, book launches, and readings. To celebrate Hanuukkah, during the Shop & Stroll Newtonville Books is having a 2 PM Hanukkah party with a story told by Rabbi Keith Stern, dreidels, gelt, and latkes from Johnny's luncheonette! Durin gthe stroll it’s welcoming Baseball Card Buddies as a pop up during the Shop & Stroll. If there’s a baseball fan or card collector in your family, make sure to stop in to see Newton dad and avid baseball fan, Andrew Phillips. He has cards for those beginning or expanding a collection as well as collecting paraphernalia. Pair his cards with some of Newtonville’s many Ballpark Mysteries by David Kelly, and you’ve got great, unplugged gifts for young baseball enthusiasts!

The Cork & Board + Horizonline Ceramics

New to Newton Centre, The Cork & Board, seems to have been created with holidays in mind--when friends and family gather together, prepare and share creative foods, great wine, and craft beer. Oh, and if you're exchanging gifts, well, they have those too. Cork & Board is a one-stop holiday shopping destination, with a vast assortment of specialty foods, including everything needed for stunning charcuterie spreads-- cheeses, cured meats, olives, pickles, crackers--and that's just for starters. During the stroll they'll be sampling fine wines for your holiday feast for those 21+. Locavore owner Ryan Gott showcases local talent, so it’s fitting that Newton ceramicist, Aisling Colleary of Horizon Line Ceramics, is popping up in his shop for the Stroll. Aisling will have her contemporary planters, mugs, and dishware that’s perfect for presenting all of the specialty foods for sale at The Cork & Board.

Market-Tiamo + Matt Day Woodworks

One of Newton Centre’s newest additions, Market-Tiamo, an authentic Italian market, has quickly developed a loyal following. It’s stocked with freshly made pasta, focaccia, Italian cold cuts, cheeses, olives, pantry staples, and Italian wine, as well as made-to-order sandwiches and meals and desserts from their sister restaurant Spiga. Market-Tiamo is a friendly, food-lovers paradise and will be offering food samples throughout the stroll. It's the perfect spot to host Matt Day of Matt Day Woodworks, with his hand-hewn collection of wooden spoons, bowls, and boards. A Lower Falls resident, Matt's stunning handcrafted items for home and table are pieces of functional beauty. Crafted one at a time, mostly using hand tools, from local reclaimed trees, they are items to cherish, admire, and use. Perfect as holiday presents. While there, talk to Matt about learning how to carve a spoon of your own by taking his New Art Center carving class!

Even if you aren’t strolling with children you should take a peek at this new dental practice in Newton which blends expert pediatric dental care for children, with a fantastic aquatic environment. Bubble Dentistry & Orthodontics' goal is to recreate the dental experience for children so they look forward to trips to the dentist. By creating a comfortable, inviting, and fun atmosphere, Bubble sets the stage for children to have a lifetime of great oral health. Refugee Protection International

This year, the 501(c)(3) Refugee Protection International (RPI) is taking part in the Newton Centre Shop & Stroll. This local non-profit assists conflict-afflicted civilians in Syria, Ukraine, and beyond. As part of their efforts, RPI collaborates with refugee-led partners to train vulnerable women in a cash-for-work program, and these women then produce sweet and festive stuffed animals and ornaments, perfect for gift-giving and tree-trimming. Purchases from RPI are twice as sweet, knowing they help support those who most need help in war-torn areas. RPI will be popping up at Bubble Dentistry with Better Life Food, further making it a must-stop for strolling families!

Baramor + Quicksilver Baking

Year round, restaurant and bar Baramor always has something fun going on. Farmstead Table is one of the bonus Shop & Stroll locations with two pop-ups--fine artist Claudia Doherty and glass artist Lora Wahl Kudisch. Farmstead Table’s farm-to-table dining is casual yet elegant, blending a French flair with the best of the American kitchen. Relying on ingredients from local farms, menu offerings are fresh as can be, and creative. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy seasonal meals, and unwind with a cocktail, craft beer, or fine wine. With a destination-worthy weekend brunch, you may want to grab a bite at Farmstead Table before kicking off the Shop & Stroll. While there, visit Newton fine artist Claudia Doherty and local glass artist Lora Wahl Kudisch.Claudia predominantly paints in oils and acrylics, and her landscapes and figurative paintings are in private collections world-wide.

Lora Wahl Kudisch Glass Artist

Local artist Lora Wahl Kudisch, is popping up at Farmstead Table, too! Lora creates colorful and whimsical fused glass pieces out of sheet glass, enamels and glass frit. While most of her designs are inspired by nature, she also enjoys using text and repeating geometric patterns in her work, which is all made in her Roslindale studio. Perfect for gifting to others or brightening up your own holiday home or table.
